Thread: Scott Speed poised to be next American F1 driver....

    Please, RedBull, make this happen!!

    Report from f1.racing-live.com:

Red Bull Racing owner Dieter Mateschitz has not made his final choice for his team's drivers line-up but he is not hiding his actual preferences.

"I want to test young drivers and others with more experience before taking the final decision. The only thing that I can say is that Liuzzi and Klien will be testing next week and they also have a good chance of being our drivers for 2005. As for Scott Speed, we are considering him as a choice for test driver."

Scott Speed - who will turn 22 on 24 January - won the 2002 Red Bull Driver Search programme and is now a member of the Red Bull Junior Team. With the help of this sponsor, he had a brilliant and successful 2004 season, winning the Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup championship title.

Coincidence or not, Scott is now living in Milton Keynes... a few kilometres from the former Jaguar facility, now owned by Red Bull!

I think the line up will be Speed and Klien with Liuzzi as the Test driver. Dieter has made no secret of the fact that he wants to increase Red Bull's profile in USA so why not have an American Driver to cheer for. I would like to see it happen for sure

Honestly...you think that kid is ready for F1? No way. Yes it would be cool to see an American back in F1....but I also don't want to see him get his a$$ kicked all over the place and be 3 laps down at the end.

Keep him in the current program and give him more time to develop.

I didn't say he was ready, i just think that Politics and Marketing will decide who will drive the car. The sensible thing would be to keep Klein and put Coulthard somewhere in the team (racer or tester) due to his experience and the mentoring role he could provide to the young guys.
