Australian Grand Prix... Has anyone been in previous years?

The Australia Grand Prix is coming up on March 30th - April 2 and I'm personally excited as I will be attending this year as I'm visiting a bunch of friends who are currently working / traveling in OZ.

Has anyone every been to OZ Grand Prix? If so can you tell me thoughts on grand stands that offer the best views, as well as what the night life and events are like in the city.

We are currently looking at booking a hotel or possible an apartment in the city for a week give or take and any suggestions would be welcomed.

I'm also curious how this is going to compare to the Canadian Grand Prix, with regards to popularity, partying ect?

I went in 2004 and just had a "paddock pass" as opposed to a grandstand ticket. We walked around the whole track during the preliminary races and the F1 race and ended up at the 2nd last corner for most of the race opposite one of the big screens.

Melbourne is a good city for going out and it comes alive with the grand prix carnival. Lots of good restaurants and nightlife. You would want to get in soon to get any decent accomodation before it is booked out.
