Thread: Great actors of our time...

  1. 04-11-2008 02:02 PM #1
We all know the great actors of all time, but who are some of the great actors of OUR time?

For sake of argument, the majority of their work must have been within the last 10 or 15 years, and they must still be acting (unless they are dead).

To get this started, here are my selections:

    Christian Bale

    Edward Norton

    Charlize Theron

    Johnny Depp

    Steve Buschemi

are two that come to mind. I'm trying to think of 'great' actresses of the last 10-15 years but for the most part they are either interchangeable or I don't care for their work that much.

I guess I like Uma's roles for the most part.

Christopher Walken. I never hated a role he has done.

IMO Bale is one of the best in Hollywood since I saw him as a kid in Empire of the Sun.

    Bill Murray

Chris Cooper is pretty amazing IMO. I first saw him in "Lonesome Dove" years ago, and since then every time he's in a movie he steals it. The "Bourne" movies, "Matewan" and others showcase his talent.

I also really enjoy David Strathairn's acting. Here he is in "Dolores Claiborne", the excellent movie from a Stephen King novel:

    Agreed...

He was great in Breach and again in The Kingdom.

Edward Norton is definitely my favorite actor. He is unreal in American History X and so good in many others.

I agree, but isn't it a damned shame that they're both currently dead.

Here's my shameless plug for one of the GREAT Matthau pictures ever...Charlie Varrick. It has one of the best surprise endings in movie history. See it when you can if you like great movies and Matthau.

They were still better then more then a few of the current crop of actors.

I just hope they don't try to make The Odd Couple 3. That would be blasphemous in the worst way.

I'll have to track that down sometime.

I'm a fan of his too, but I still think Ironman will be a decent movie.
