Thread: 2010 Mercedes E350 Coupe/Sedan sneak preview pics

  1. 05-08-2009 04:26 AM #1
So I got an email from Penske last week for a special sneak preview of the new E-Class which is scheduled to come out next month.

Here's all the crappy cell phone pics I took

At first, I hated it when I saw it online, but in person, its sooooo much better. The curves are excellent, the headlamps, the interior especially! The seats on the coupe are so advanced I don't even want to know how heavy they are. To slide them forward, you just pull the little silver handle on the side once, and it automatically slides itself forward and backwards for you. And they have an iDrive module like the BMW which is nice, the new placement of the Nav is much better compared to the current model. And not to mention the steering wheel is secks imo.

I guess its more of a love it or hate it look.

This new 4 foglight setup Mercedes seems to giving to the new models looks like ass.

But those seats are beautiful, and so is the pillarless windows.

As expected, I have fully warmed up to the E-class coupe/sedan. Can't wait to see them out on the road.

So far, so bad. I'll wait 'till I see one in person.

Anyone else think the back looks really cheap. Maybe its all the Chinese knockoffs, but for some reason the rear shots either don't do it justice, or the rear of the car is not shaped or sized right. Just seems "off".

Edit: specifically the Sonata tails and the hunk of chrome on the trunk. As well as the beginnings of like a rear diffuser that looks bad.

Same old design. They should fire that person who gave this idea. I really don't like it. But I agree with the seat on the 4th pic that is nice.

is it just me or does it look like the top of the front wheel well is way higher than the top of the rear wheel well?

proportions don't seem right .. huge overhang in the back
    tiny wheels
rear quarter panel area seems to bulky
looks like the original design was to have the wheel base longer, and somehow in the process they made it shorter and all the excess fat stuck
not even complete windowless/pillarless design??? what's theat 1/4 glass thing I see at the c-pillar?

    Tail lights = Hello Hyundai

the original one's lines flowed a lot better:

    the coupe looks really cool.

not a fan of the octo-exhaust outlets, unless the ones in the front are functional

looks like a Mercedes inasmuch as a Chinese interpretation of a Mercedes looks like a Mercedes.

Er, you know what I meant...

And I'm betting those foglight tips aren't even really connected to the foglights!

    Meh...

but those front seats look amazing

Oddly enough, somehow your pictures of the red one make it look better than any professional photos I have seen so far.

I agree it looks more sport and should stand out more on the road. Unlike the previous models which look like any other car on the road in my opinion.

Crappy cell phone pics are sneak previews still? Didn't official full sized, non-blurry pictures get out like months ago?

The shiny piece on the bottom looks like a piece of protective foil that needs to removed

The E Class is growing on me.
Actually, I like the quad foglight design that used to be a Brabus feature. BTW, are all 4 fogs functional or are they housing the high tech cruise control beam or other systems?

  23. 05-08-2009 10:56 AM #23
    I love it.

  24. 05-08-2009 11:04 AM #24
From the Benz forum and I agree with a poster there that the LED's most likely come with Bi-Xenon's (the double fogs with the standard lights).

I like where Mercedes is going with their latest designs. Not sure about the new round things they're sticking under their lights, but overall I think those are easy fixes.

Light colors make that interior look so cheap. The texture and color of the buttons on the wheel, for instance, don't contrast enough with the surrounding material for it to look intentional -- it just looks like crappy color-matching.

It's not quite as bad with the darker interior, but it's the kind of thing that would bug me.

Sport rear bumper helps the rear.......also prefer the LEDs.

The cars look much better in these more candid photos. I can't say that I understand or appreciate the four foglight thing, but it looks a lot better on these low, sleek cars, versus the GL class. The proportions of these cars look spot on, even if the detailing is a bit garish. These cars have definite presence. Still pissed about the quarter window in the coupe.

    The black sedan looks magnificent

everything thing else looks schizophrenic, I think darker colors hide the busy-ness

    Lol thanks

I personally don't think these pictures do it justice... I was just there yesterday and it looked fantastic, but in these pictures, I can totally understand why people think of it as a Hyundai Genesis/Lexus GS look-alike. It definitely still feels like a Benz even though I hear they're trying to cost cut. I'm just curious to see how the coupe will fair up against the CL since the E is gonna be much cheaper..

I really like those pictures of the coupe, it looks so angry.

Its so "busy". The front looks very dynamic and the rest is blah.

I have a very very hard time figuring out why anyone would buy this over the S5 for the same price.

"One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that if you drive into London at 6am, half of the cars on the roads are Porsches and Astons. Whereas if you go in at ten to nine, they’re all Renaults. Simple solution, then. You want a nice car? Get up earlier and do more work."
